A major global contract to market and supply innovative software which measures precise oil flows for valuation and invoicing purposes has been won by an Aberdeen-based oil flow measurement consultancy.

The contract, to represent and promote UK-software FisCal Engineer, has been won by oil-flow consultancy Caledonian Flow Systems Ltd, which was founded in 1999 and advises oil and gas companies throughout the UK and globally including in Mexico, Venezuela and Nigeria.

The contract has been awarded by industrial software developer, Terrington Data Management, which created FisCal Engineer. The industry-standard system is used for the scheduling, monitoring, and calibration of field instrumentation and test equipment to UK DTI and Norwegian NPD standards at offshore platforms or onshore refineries, so that even small quantities of oil can be measured precisely.

Founder and managing director of Caledonian Flow Systems, Denis Pinto, who previously worked for BP overseeing all European oil field measurement, says "This partnership with Terrington Data Management is an exciting opportunity to enhance Caledonian Flow's consultancy services by supplying FisCal Engineer and configuring it to our clients' needs.

"Oil is not as plentiful as a generation ago when each field had its own platform. The industry is now highly complex with more fields accessing existing platforms for the supply of different qualities and quantities of oil. As different owners and operators are trying to operate economically, often on marginal quantities, it is making precise measurement essential to protect individual revenues."

The contract is the second placed with an Aberdeen-based business by Terrington Data Management, York, which has products in use worldwide, in the last 12 months. The company has an arrangement with Nicholson Consulting, which provides training to users of Terrington's Transform data capture software which is widely used in North Sea oil and gas fields.

Terrington Data Management chief executive, Mark Williams, says: "We are delighted that Caledonian Flow has joined the Terrington Partner Team and will be taking FisCal into new overseas territories. Denis Pinto has a wealth of flow metering experience which will benefit customers and product development as well as adding to our presence in Aberdeen."
