The Rotary Club of Belmopan held a handing over ceremony on Friday, July 1st where the new board was installed and rewards recognizing outstanding service for the last year were awarded.

The new board of the Rotary Club of Belmopan consists of the following individuals:

• Wilana Oldham (President)
• Karen Lewis (President Elect)
• Joseph Mena (Past President)
• Edna Peraza (Secretary)
• Bryan Mena (Treasurer)
• Ross Blumentritt (Membership)
• Howard Oldham (Service Projects)
• Richard Beane (Public Relations)
• Nicole Petzold (Rotary Foundation)
• Karen Lewis (Club Administration)
• Peter Wolf (Fundraising Chairperson)

The Rotary Club of Belmopan has existed for just over 3 years and has accomplished numerous projects during that time - flush toilets for the Las Flores School, a water well for the Belize Christian Academy, a covered lunch area for the United Evergreen Primary School, chairs for the Infant School, electricity in the community center for the Village of Armenia, a donation of wheelchairs, helping with air transportation for the Belize Children's Project, and an improved water system for the Village of Selena, just to name a few. The Board plans to build the Club’s previous success by implementing more water projects targeted primarily at schools.

There were also several awards for service offered but two were of particular note. The most coveted award of the night – the Paul Harris Award for outstanding contributions to the community and exemplifying the highest ideal in Rotary – was given to Howard Oldham. Also, Ross Blumentritt won the Rotarian of the Year award.
