Jailbirds’ are each encouraged to raise $1200 in bail to be released for good behavior. This bail amount will send two local children to MDA’s Summer Camp for youngsters affected by neuromuscular disease. MDA’s Summer Camp lets kids experience a wide range of activities specially designed for young people with limited mobility. MDA Summer Camp allows campers to develop friendships, share interests and build self-confidence.

“The Saint Paul Executive Lock Up is the perfect opportunity for businessmen and women to give back to their community, network with other business leaders and have fun at the same time,” MDA Regional Coordinator Chris Zupfer said.

This year’s Lock Up will include MDA’s gourmet version of bread and water provided by Wildside Caterers. Upon arrival, jailbirds will be “booked”, processed and receive VIP treatment. Activities include photos on the Minnesota Wild Zamboni, tours of the Minnesota Wild locker room, slap shots on the floor of the Xcel Energy Center floor and networking with other business leaders in Saint Paul. Incentives include gift certificates, t-shirts, and invitations to appear on the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon on September 4, 2006.

MDA is providing jailbirds the opportunity to create their own web page to help them raise bail. By contacting Brian Gioielli at bgioielli@mdausa.org jailbirds can learn how to customize their page with a photo and e-mail the link to friends, family and co-workers who will be able to make a secure donation on-line.

Proceeds from the Lock Up will not only benefit MDA’s Summer Camp, but also assist more than 2,000 families in the Greater Twin Cities. MDA (www.mda.org) is the number one provider of neuromuscular research and relies almost entirely by private donations. MDA receives no funding from the United Way or the Federal Government. This voluntary health agency works to defeat more than 40 neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive services, and far-reaching professional and public health education.
