Harrison Street Gallery Presents: Will Hübscher as Featured Artist for August

Print artist Will Hübscher is the featured artist for August at the Harrison Street Gallery in Frenchtown, NJ from August 5 through August 27. On Saturday, August 5, 2006, there will be a reception from 5 till 9 PM, coinciding with “First Saturdays”, an ongoing monthly event at Harrison Street Gallery.

Consider this an invitation to the most unusual and accomplished monoprints that you are likely to see; all in color and black & white images that provoke, personify and perfect. Using a unique process that begins with a computer and ends with an etching press, Will literally creates a new medium to produce his artwork, or, as he refers to it, his “stories.” They are monoprints pressed onto watercolor paper with elements of photography, digital imagery, etchings, and pure fantasy mixed in.

Each piece tells a story derived from vintage photography. Will chooses each photo based on some unique characteristic that jogs a memory, provokes an emotion, enchants or disgusts, but in some way draws him in. Will has a deep interest in renewal, recycling and rebirth, and he explores those feelings through his art.

“I don’t tell stories with nouns and verbs and adjectives,” he explains. “I speak with concept and color and texture. Through each piece, a new history is built with greens and blues and violets and golds. A storyline is added with darkness and light. The final chapter is literally pressed onto the paper both figuratively and physically. A new truth is born – a visual tale to consider, to ponder, to deride or to enjoy.”

Anthony Marraccini of Easton’s Connexions Gallery says, “Will's recent show "Storyteller", has garnered a great deal of positive response, in that it evokes a certain sense of mystery and nostalgia in the viewer through his choice of imagery, and the atmosphere that his process creates. There is a layering there that makes the viewer look both deep into the work, but also into themselves. The show is truly a turning point for the artist.”

Will is a self-taught artist born and raised in New Jersey. He has exhibited widely in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Chicago and Los Angeles. His work can be previewed at his Web site: www.hubcaparte.com.

The new Harrison Street Gallery is a cooperative featuring artists from Philadelphia, Easton, and Bucks County PA as well as Hunterdon and Warren Counties, NJ.
