WINSTEAD, July 29, 2006 — Officers from the Winsted Volunteer Fire Department are holding two Fill-the-Boot drives to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s continued efforts against neuromuscular diseases. On Sunday, July 30 and Sunday, August 6, members of the volunteer fire department will be asking for contributions to benefit MDA.
The firefighters will be collecting at two different locations in Winsted beginning at 9 a.m. on both dates. They will be at the intersection of Route 44 and Main Street, as well as at Park Place. The Winsted Volunteer Fire Department is the highest raising volunteer fire department for MDA in the state of Connecticut. In 2005, these firefighters raised over $15,000 to benefit MDA.
The Muscular Dystrophy Association helps children and adults who are affected by any of 40 neuromuscular diseases covered by MDA’s comprehensive medical services and research programs. MDA receives no government funding and charges no fees to those served by the Association. Every summer, MDA runs summer camps across the country for children with muscle-wasting diseases, including one in Hebron for Connecticut kids.
