KETTERING, Ohio, July 31, 2006 — The Kettering Professional Firefighters IAFF Local #2150 and the three Kettering Kroger stores will team up on Friday, August 4, 2006 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. to hold a firefighter “Fill the Boot” for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). The Kroger stores, located at 530 E. Stroop Rd, 2115 E. Dorothy Ln and 2100 Whipp Rd have been long-time supporters of the firefighters and MDA.
Rob Hessinger, firefighter/paramedic and fire department representative for MDA, said “The event is popular throughout the nation, with firefighters usually standing in intersections of busy streets collecting money with fire boots in hand. We thought this would be a safer alternative to standing in the street and avoiding even more traffic congestion for the citizens and commuters.”
Although the firefighters will not be in the streets, they are urging everyone to stop in and say hello, get some grocery shopping done, donate some money to a great cause and have some fun. This year the Ohio Association of Professional Firefighters is trying to reach a goal of $1,000,000. The million dollar mark has only been obtained by 4 states nationwide and every year Ohio is ranked in the top 5 in firefighter donations across the country. Last year, the state organization raised over $700,000 and the dream of the million dollar mark is the goal for ’06.
The Kettering firefighters are also accepting mail in donations for the “Fill the Boot” at:
