July 31, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Education News
Nezen Creation, a Pittsburgh-based web development firm, recently completed www.SchoolDelay.com, a national website based out of Charleston, SC.

SchoolDelay.com is a startup taking advantage of new cell phone technology in launching its school alert system. The system allows schools to communicate directly to parents via a text message sent to a subscribed parent’s cell phone and email address. Additionally, the information is also shared immediately with the school’s own website via RSS, the SchoolDelay.com site, and regional partner sites.

Alert Capabilities
SchoolDelay.com’s powerful features help schools communicate with parents during difficult communication times such as weather delays and emergencies. With SchoolDelay.com, parents can signup for free, subscribe to the schools of their choice, place opt-in cell phone and email addresses to receive the alerts. The School Administrator can access school-specific functions on a password-protected site allowing them to work remotely from a Web browser to send out the alerts.
“This will put us on the front edge of technology and something like this should have been developed years ago. It will help us increase our communication efforts with parents during times of emergency.” said Dr. Waters, Head of School for Cathedral Academy in Charleston, SC whose school educates over 400 students from 300 families. “Further, using SchoolDelay.com’s Affinity Store will also help us increase our School Spirit Store revenue. We are excited to get this new technology in place for the upcoming school year.’

The combined solution will allow Schools to:

- Provide superior communication with parents by sending an alert directly to parents cell phone via text message and email alerts
- Track past alerts and alert types for future scheduling analysis
- Eliminate the need for time intensive and error prone phone trees
Create or enhance the school’s spirit store revenue by selling items online

Receiving specific messages to your cell phone had really taken off in the last 3 years with the advent of new digital phone technology. In fact, the US Government is rolling out a similar system for terrorist attacks and national emergencies.
