STRATFORD, August 5, 2006 — Officers and members from the Stratford Fire Department Local 998 are planning a Fill-the-Boot drive to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s continued efforts against neuromuscular diseases. On Sunday, August 20, these firefighters will be asking for contributions to benefit MDA. With Fill-the-Boot, officers use their uniform boots to collect donations.

The drive will be held beginning at 10 a.m. on August 20. Firefighters will be collecting at two different locations in Stratford. They will be at the entrances of Wal-Mart and Shaw’s, both on Barnum Avenue. This will be the Stratford department’s first Fill-the-Boot drive for MDA, and they have set a fundraising goal of $3,000.

The Muscular Dystrophy Association helps children and adults who are affected by any of the more than 40 neuromuscular diseases in MDA’s program. MDA receives no government funding and charges no fees to those served by the Association.
