CINCINNATI, Ohio, August 9, 2006 — The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) is seeking volunteers to answer phones and help out behind the scenes at this year’s Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon, airing on WSTR Channel 64 on September 4.

The Telethon raises funds to support MDA’s programs of worldwide research, public health education, and services for people affected by any of more than 40 neuromuscular diseases. The Telethon will begin at 6 a.m. and air until 7 p.m. The national broadcast originates in Las Vegas at the South Coast Hotel and cuts to frequent local segments. Locally, the Telethon will broadcast from Five Seasons Sports Club in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

Proceeds from the Telethon will assist more than 1,000 families in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. MDA provides assistance in the purchases of wheelchairs, leg braces and communication devices for patients and offers five support groups. MDA’s Summer Camp is an exciting week at Camp Campbell Gard in Hamilton, OH for children ages 6-21 living with any one of 43 neuromuscular diseases. MDA also funds two weekly clinics – one at University Hospital and one at Children’s Hospital.

MDA (www.mda.org) is a non-profit organization not funded by United Way or the Federal Government and is the number one provider of neuromuscular research. This voluntary health agency works to defeat more than 40 neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive services, and far-reaching professional and public health education.
