Looking for Love at a Yarn Store

August 23, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
With speed dating, singles cruises, and singles groups at churches, it was only a matter of time that a singles craft group was offered. That Yarn Store, a small family business in Eagle Rock, is providing a fun space for singles of both genders to mingle and knit at a free event on September 15th from 6 pm to 9 pm.

"Craft groups" are a low stress way of meeting people. Most participants already have a common interest, and the occasional silence can be filled by the comforting clicking of needles, says Thea Orozco, whose family owns the store. The inspiration for Singles Night came shortly before That Yarn Store's first Men's Night meeting, when half a dozen women threatened to crash the group in search of guys who knit.

Just one year old, That Yarn Store already has a history of bringing people together. Tom McNalley was waiting for a pizza when he stumbled upon That Yarn Store's grand opening celebration. A few yarn store hosted movie nights and half a scarf later, he and Frances Garretson, co-owner of the store, are now happily engaged. The list goes on; from new couples taking a beginning lesson together, to a high school couples using the store as an escape from the outside world.

No previous experience with sticks is required for Single's Night. All that is needed to join is an interest in meeting new people and in craft or fiber arts. That Yarn Store's free Singles Night will take place September 15th from 6 pm to 9 pm.

That Yarn Store in Eagle Rock is a family-owned, community-oriented gathering place. Knitters and crocheters will find comfy couches, music nights, men's nights, knitting and crochet classes, and yarn from all over the world.
