MARLBOROUGH, CONN. August 24, 2006 — Members of the Marlborough Volunteer Fire Department are planning a weekend-long Fill-the-Boot drive to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s continued efforts against neuromuscular diseases. On Saturday, August 26 and Sunday, August 27, these firefighters will be asking for contributions to benefit MDA. With Fill-the-Boot, members of the department use their uniform boots to collect donations.
Firefighters will be collecting at the intersection of Route 66 and Main Street in Marlborough. They will be out from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
This will be the Marlborough Volunteer Department’s second year filling the boot for MDA. In 2004, the department’s first year doing an MDA Fill-the-Boot drive, they raised $4,803.
The Muscular Dystrophy Association helps children and adults who are affected by any of 40 neuromuscular diseases in MDA’s program. MDA receives no government funding and charges no fees to those served by the Association. Every summer, MDA runs summer camps across the country for children with muscle-wasting diseases, including one in Hebron for Connecticut kids. For more information about local MDA activities and how you can get involved please call the local office at (860) 633-4466 or visit www.mda.org.
