Phil Keaggy Connects with Fans Via Podcast

August 24, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Entertainment News
Nashville, TN - Dove Award winner and Grammy nominee Phil Keaggy has always pushed the limits of what is possible to accomplish on the guitar. Now the legendary guitarist is taking advantage of technological advances to connect with his fans through the growing medium of podcasting.

Updated monthly, Keaggy's podcasts include interviews that allow fans to get to know the man behind the music, samples of his music, as well as his personal musical picks. Podcast outlet Feedburner.com is already seeing great response to the podcasts, with the 30-day average close to 300 downloads per day and numbers growing daily. Fans can find Keaggy's podcasts through several different avenues, such as iTunes, Podguitar.com, Google and even Keaggy's own webpage. Podguitar.com's Tom Sabella says, "It's an honor and a privilege to present the impeccable music of Phil Keaggy to the podcast community. His talent has inspired my generation and now, through this futuristic technology, he'll continue to encourage the next."

Podcasting, the delivering of audio content to portable media players, exploded in popularity with the introduction of the Apple iPod. Music, teaching and informational programs can be downloaded on demand, streamed to a media player and then listened to at the user's convenience. Because the typical media player is tiny, light and extremely portable, users can take them everywhere, and the podcasting technology has been compared to TiVo for MP3 players. Still in its infancy, interest in podcasting has grown rapidly. Only 800,000 consumers downloaded podcasts in 2004, that figure boomed to an estimated 4.5 million last year, and some experts predict the numbers to exceed 56 million by 2010.

Roundabout, Keaggy's upcoming instrumental project releasing November 7, 2006 on TAG Artist Group, is this month's featured CD on the podcast. The album is a genre-defying 18-track collection that fuses elements of rock, blues and jazz and is the culmination of Keaggy's 30-year love affair with looping technology. On the project, Keaggy adds a new twist to the art of guitar playing with his mastery of live electronic 'looping,' which allows him to combine the sounds of multiple guitar parts, using only one acoustic guitar, to create a cool indie-vibe.

Keaggy's solo career has spanned more than 30 years and has included close to 50 solo albums, both vocal and instrumental, as well as eight releases with his highly acclaimed band Glass Harp. His music has been honored with seven Dove Awards and a Grammy nomination. He continues to sell out concerts all over the US with his ever-changing style, ranging from rock 'n' roll to fully orchestrated instrumental compositions. His fans range from those who aspire just to be able to play Keaggy's mistakes to professional guitarists who have been strongly influenced by his style. And in between are those who don't play guitar, yet find solace in his beautifully penned lyrics and memorable melodies.
