MDA SEEKS VOLUNTEERS FOR THE 2006 JERRY LEWIS MDA LABOR DAY CONNECTICUT TELETHON PLEDGE CENTER

HARTFORD, August 24, 2006 —The Muscular Dystrophy Association is seeking volunteers to answer phones and help out behind the scenes at this year’s Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon, airing Sunday, September 3 and Monday, September 4. The local Telethon needing volunteers serves the Connecticut offices of MDA.
The pledge center will be located at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut. Interested volunteers should contact the local MDA office to pre-register in order to gain access to the Telethon on September 3 and 4. Volunteers are needed to answer phones and work in the Telethon pledge center mailroom. Phone bank volunteers may appear on camera during the Telethon broadcast. Volunteers can choose a specific shift: from 8:15 p.m. to midnight on Sunday night, 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Monday, 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday, or 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday. MDA is especially in need of additional volunteers for the Sunday night and Monday morning shifts.
The Telethon raises funds to support MDA’s programs of worldwide research, public health education, and services for people affected by any of more than 40 neuromuscular diseases. The Telethon will begin at 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 3rd and air for 21.5 hours. The national broadcast films in Las Vegas and cuts to frequent local segments. Locally, the Telethon will air on WTIC Fox-61 Hartford.
