The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) is seeking volunteers to answer phones and help out behind the scenes at this year’s Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon, airing on WNEM TV- 5, September 3-4.

The Telethon raises funds to support MDA's programs of worldwide research, public health education, and services for people affected by over 40 neuromuscular diseases. The national broadcast originates in Las Vegas at the South Coast Hotel and cuts to frequent local segments here in Flint at the Holiday Inn Gateway Center. Last year, the Telethon in Mid-Michigan and Flint raised $586, 591 for MDA.

Proceeds from the Telethon will assist families in the Flint and Mid-Michigan areas. MDA provides assistance in the purchases of wheelchairs, leg braces and communication devices for patients, offers support groups., and sends children to summer camp. MDA’s Summer Camp takes place in late June at Bear Lake Camp in Lapeer.

MDA (www.mda.org) is a non-profit organization and is the number one provider of neuromuscular research. MDA, a voluntary health agency, works to defeat 43 neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive services, and far-reaching professional and public health education.
