Metropolitan Ballet Theatre in Alpharetta – just north of Atlanta, Georgia – announced a new Contemporary Dance and Performing Program directed by Burke Daniels, a respected teacher of dancers aspiring to make it on Broadway. Daniels comes to Alpharetta from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where she has trained dancers who have gone on to perform in Broadway hits such as “Music Man” and “Hairspray”, as well as Christian Tworzyanski, who is a company member with New York City Ballet. The faculty also includes Kristy Nilsson, a highly-respected teacher from Houston and Atlanta who has choreographed works performed by ten dance companies in six states. Metropolitan Ballet Theatre’s founding Artistic Director is Maniya Barredo, a Prima Ballerina designated by Dame Margot Fonteyn in 1978.

Metropolitan Ballet Theatre’s new Contemporary Dance Education Program will provide a foundation in ballet but will focus on jazz, modern and theatre dance for those wishing to pursue a career in those fields and offer performing opportunities in those dance styles. Classes are offered for students 7 to 18 years old starting in August 2006.
