THE FOURTH ANNUAL HOME & GARDEN SHOW GIVES ADVICE ON HOME WINE STORAGE

Home wine storage, from small bottle chillers to full-blown, climate-controlled wine cellars, is popular with homeowners of all types. Jost Lunstroth, the “Wine Cellar Guy,” will be giving advice and ideas on residential wine storage to the attendees of the Fourth Annual Fall Home & Garden Show at The Woodlands, September 16-17, at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel and Convention Center. He will give advice and ideas to homeowners on how to build a climate-controlled wine room and discuss examples of some of the wine rooms and cellars that others have built in Texas.

“The wine cellar is one of those product categories that have exploded in popularity,” said Tony Wood, president of Texwood Shows, Inc., producers of the show. “We feel fortunate to have Jost share his knowledge with our homeowner attendees here in the Suburban North Houston area.”

A report prepared by the Wine Market Council in 2004 shows that of the 203 million adults in the U.S., over 26 percent are wine drinkers. “We are building custom-designed wine areas in homes that range in value from a few hundred thousand to into the millions,” said Lunstroth, of Vineyard Wine Cellars. “We see everything from the person who buys a few cases a year to the serious collector with thousands of bottles. We strive to create an area in the home for the appreciation and enjoyment of wine. It could be a room for storing a collection or a place for enjoying wine with friends.”

Texans are building both fun and functional wine rooms. “Our client outside of San Antonio put their wine cellar beneath the bar, and the bar has a glass floor. One can see into the wine cellar through the glass floor, and it is a great view. The climate-contolled wine room holds 1,800 bottles. There is another wine room in The Woodlands that is hidden behind cabinets, a kind of secret wine room that holds thousands of bottles,” said Lunstroth.

Vineyard Wine Cellars works with the homeowner or the home builder in designing the wine room. “There are many components of designing and building a climate-controlled wine room – it’s much more than racking. If the room is not constructed correctly, there will be moisture-related problems in the room. We are very careful and prepare all our rooms to exceed generally accepted industry standards,” said Lunstroth.

Vineyard Wine Cellars in Houston specializes in designing and building climate-controlled wine rooms and is currently doing work throughout central and south Texas: The Woodlands, Houston, Boerne, La Vernia, Kerrville, Dripping Springs and Austin. Lunstroth recently added an account manager to help with all the work. While located in Houston, they work in Austin, San Antonio, Houston and all points in between. Vineyard Wine Cellars is the only authorized dealer in Texas for Wine Cellar Innovations and eSommelier. The Frisco office covers the greater Dallas and Fort Worth areas. The Dallas office was formed in 2002 and the Houston office in 2004. They are TRCC registered.

The Fourth Annual Fall Home & Garden Show at The Woodlands features over 200 exhibitors primarily from the Suburban North Houston area – all specializing in products and services for homeowners.
