Bright Steps Forward, a 501c(3) nonprofit organization, is hosting an authentic 50s and 60s sock hop—a musical blast from the past that hopes to raise money for intensive pediatric therapy scholarships for children with disabilities in need of therapy not covered by insurance or other private funding.

The Sock Hop, on Saturday, September 9, 2006, offers up a classic blend of vintage and current music, featuring The Mystics, The Five Boroughs and The Five Discs, with music sure to bring back fond memories for some and to introduce a fantastic genre of fun and toe-tapping music for young people of all ages. From classic rock to R&B and doo wop, the Sock Hop will offer up a variety of music guaranteed to please everyone. For those who remember “The King” and for those too young to remember Elvis’ famous moves, Chris MacDonald, nationally-renowned and the only Elvis impersonator to be officially sanctioned by Graceland, will highlight the show with some of our all-time Elvis favorites. Set in the comfortable atmosphere of the Orangebrook Country Club from 7 pm to 11 pm, the Sock Hop will prove to be a fun entertainment experience for both couples and families alike. Tickets are just $75 and proceeds will go to providing much needed therapy for children who otherwise may suffer with untreated major disabilities due to lack of ability to pay.

Bright Steps Forward was founded by Eileen de Oliveira, a mother of a child born with cerebral palsy who learned how to crawl and walk using both Intensive Pediatric Therapy in conjunction with the TheraSuit Method and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. It was this breakthrough in her child’s development that led to Bright Steps Forward.

Bright Steps Forward is committed exclusively to fundraising for scholarships used by children with physical disabilities who haven’t the funds to pay for intensive pediatric therapy—a groundbreaking type of physical, occupational and speech therapy that puts children with disabilities on the fast track toward a more independent life. Because this therapy is relatively new to the United States, it’s not covered by insurance plans, leaving poorer children with few options and the inability to receive care that could permanently change their lives.

The Sock Hop is a fundraiser with a great cause and is a great way for families and couples to enjoy a night of entertainment with musical groups that have entertained thousands and continue to enjoy great success in the musical industry. Let them entertain you on September 9, 2006. Mindy Lang of Majic 102.7 will liven up the event as D.J. for a night that will prove to be a memorable one for the attendees and for the children who so desperately need your help. So, get your groove on and enjoy this fantastic and unique musical experience with Special Guest Ken Held from WJNA 640 am.
