The Delta Uncompahgre Blues Festival in Delta, Colorado

September 09, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News

Billed as a Blues festival you can afford, this FREE festival beginning at noon on Saturday September 30th is going to be bigger and better than ever. Besides great local Blues talent including such artists as; Harry Harpoon, Howard Berkman, David Starr, Mike Gwinn and the North Fork Flyers, The Muddy Waters of the Rio Lobos Blues Review and 3 in the Morning this year’s festival features national headliner, Maria Muldaur.

Best known for her seductive 1974 hit “Midnight at the Oasis,” Muldaur has continued singing her own brand of blues, folk, gospel, rock, and even jazz, ever since. Her first release for Telarc was Fanning the Flames in 1996, with slide guitarist Sonny Landreth, harpist Huey Lewis, and singers Johnny Adams, Bonnie Raitt, and Mavis Staples. Her best-selling Telarc debut not only garnered critical acclaim, but also cracked the Billboard Blues Chart.

Love serves as the foundation for Maria Muldaur’s latest Telarc release, Heart of Mine: Love Songs of Bob Dylan. Muldaur and Dylan often played side-by-side in the coffeehouse circuit. “It occurred to me,” Muldaur says, “that while Dylan is mostly known for his scathing, perceptive, brutally honest and insightful songs of social consciousness, he has in fact, over the years, written many passionate, poignant love songs. Muldaur goes on to add, “it was a great pleasure, and at times, quite a challenge for me to wrap myself around these soulful songs and make them my own…Some written long ago, some quite recently, these love songs convey great emotional honesty and depth, and are timeless—as is true love itself.”

The maturely expressive artist that Maria Muldaur has become will be vividly on display when she appears at the Delta Uncompahgre Blues Festival. The festival located at Confluence Park in Delta will run from noon to 8pm. A Blues festival you can’t afford to miss.
