Beijing, China-Partners Richard Wageman and Rens Metaal attended a dinner for European business leaders in which China's commerce minister Bo Xilai was the keynote speaker. Mr. Bo defended China's perceived policy change, stating that China's treatment of foreign business continues to be open and encouraging of continued liberalization.

Many foreign businesses are complaining that their efforts to acquire or merge with domestically-owned companies have been blocked, due to State fears of foreign influence. It is reported by one senior LLX attorney that Beijing authorities are currently refusing applications for mergers or acquisitions of and with Chinese companies by foreign companies, however, expects that this will change shortly.
