Prime Recognition Announces PrimeOCR Version 4.3, Voting OCR Software for Production Imaging

September 12, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Technology News
Woodinville, WA - Prime Recognition announces the availability of their production OCR software, PrimeOCR version 4.3. The latest release of PrimeOCR includes support for PDF/A-1b output, automatic document language identification, increased accuracy for both auto-rotate and deskew functions, PDF text extraction and extended support for Windows 2003 Server.

Enhancements to PrimeOCR version 4.3 include:

+ Support for PDF/A output - PrimeOCR includes the option to generate PDF output that conforms to PDF/A-1b searchable PDF output. PDF/A (ISO 19005-1) defines a file format in PDF for the long-term archiving of electronic documents.

+ Automatic document language identification - PrimeOCR will automatically identify up to two languages on each page of a document with mixed languages to further improve OCR accuracy.

+ Increased accuracy with auto-rotate and deskew - The strong auto-rotate and deskew functions within PrimeOCR have improved to more reliably find the correct orientation of any scanned image and remove skew from scanned pages (66% fewer deskew errors). This improvements contributes to improved recognition accuracy.

+ RTF output for CJK recognition - Rich text format (RTF) output is now available for recognition of CJK (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) languages.

+ PDF text extraction - With a single job PrimeOCR can perform PDF to text conversion (extraction of text from searchable PDFs) of millions of PDF files.

+ Additional options to manage input and output files - Version 4.3 of PrimeOCR adds options to move input files to the output directory and the ability to define the output path for each job submitted to the Job Server.

+ Automatic DEP detection - PrimeOCR automatically resets DEP settings for operating systems and CPUs that support and activate DEP by default (Windows 2003).

Improved OCR Accuracy through “Voting” Technology

Developed for the production OCR marketplace, PrimeOCR is an “omnifont” Windows™ 2000/XP/2003 Server based software OCR engine and Application Programming Interface (API) toolkit that uses a combination of proprietary “Voting” algorithms and technology licensed from the best retail OCR vendors.

PrimeOCR is able to reduce OCR errors by an average of 65-82% over the best conventional OCR products while providing much cleaner data by implementing "Voting" technology. Since manual error correction can account for over 50% of an imaging system cost, by lowering error rates, PrimeOCR can reduce annual operating costs by 35%.

Designed around a fault tolerant architecture, PrimeOCR provides the production OCR marketplace with a reliable OCR processing solution that generates cleaner results than conventional OCR systems.

PrimeOCR has won a number of awards, including two "Product of the Year" awards from Imaging Magazine, and a "Top 10 of AIIM."
