MAAC students to produce animation movie ‘Alone’

Mr. Vivek Atray, Director Public Relations, UT Administration, formally launched the animation movie project, ALONE to be produced by the students of Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics (MAAC), in Chandigarh (India) on 11 September 2006.

“Alone-And Loving It” is the first project for production of a full-fledged 15 minutes animation movie undertaken by 20-member team of MAAC Chandigarh, who call themselves Red Curry, and will be directed by Mr. Sachin Bhatnagar, DGM Technical.

The film is based on an adaptation of an internationally acclaimed stage play, he says.

Mr. Vivek Atray launched the project with the screening of the movie’s promo. He also inaugurated an exhibition of the sketches and illustrations done by the students which form the basis of the animation productions.

Mr. Atray lauded the efforts of the students and presented awards to 18 students for their illustration work.

Mr. Naveen Gupta said: “Our students are our biggest motivation and over the years they have proven their mettle by earning some of the top honours from global animation and art fraternity.”

The animation films produced by students of MAAC have won several prestigious nominations and awards and Indian and international festivals including FICCI BAF Awards, the ASIFA India celebrations, Asia Image Apollo Awards, etc. said Mr. Gupta.

Mr. Sumant Vadhera, Art Director, MAAC, said that MAAC students get extensive exposure to pre-production process of learning the basics of conceptualising, and visualising the art of film making.

“Alone” is the first in a series of three films to be produced by students of MAAC and the story revolves around the humerous exploits of two extra-terrestrial beings who are sent on a secret mission to investigate a strange signal emanating from somewhere deep in space, informs Sachin Bhatnagar, the director of the project.
