EXTENSIVE RESUME SURVEY RELEASED

Recently, ResumeDoctor.com conducted a study of over 150,000 resumes to assess the accuracy of candidate contact information. The resumes examined were from all industries and were submitted to employers via the Internet. ResumeDoctor.com found that over 27% of the resumes studied lacked the candidate's email address in the resume.

Brad Fredericks, of ResumeDoctor.com, explains that, "Email has become one of the primary communication tools of recruiters. Forgetting to put an email address in a resume is as bad as forgetting to list your phone number."

Tammi Greeve, a Recruiter for the Medical Staffing Network in Boca Raton, Florida, shared, "If a candidate does not include or has an invalid e-mail address, then it impacts the whole recruiting process. Our recruiters rely heavily on e-mail communication. … We have lost numerous jobs because we can not contact our candidate and they have missed their window of opportunity."

Greg Henderson, an Executive Recruiter for DBrown & Associates, of Portland, Oregon, shares, "If I look at 200 resumes a day, which is very likely, those missing e-mail address are going to be ignored. E-mail exchange helps to sort out the 'might be qualified' from the 'is not qualified.'"

Darren Thomas, a Manager at Luboja & Thau, LLP, says that, "we only select resumes with complete information and professional formatting. If potential candidates leave out any important information, it only makes it that much easier to select interviewees."

Nancy Cano, from Morrison Resource Network, of Atlanta, Georgia, states, "Phone numbers and physical addresses will change if candidates relocate, but email addresses don't ever have to change. I may not have an opportunity for a candidate at this moment, but something could come up 6 months from now."

Many recruiters shared frustration that candidates do not check email very frequently. Kevin Sapp, of Adecco, shares that, "The e-mail address is only as good as the frequency a potential candidate checks it. It serves no purpose to have an e-mail address and not review the messages at least daily." Gail Houston, from EDS, of Plano, Texas, further adds, "I cannot tell you how many times I have sent out questionnaires over email only to get them back a week later after the position has been filled."
