Selecting a vacation destination in the country’s second-largest state is no small task but guidebook authors Paris Permenter and John Bigley have years of experience pointing out the best Texas has to offer travelers. Now the authors turn to the web to share their expertise with readers with the launch of the TexasTripper.com (http://www.texastripper.com) website.

“There is so much to see and do in Texas that, even after 20 years of covering the state in travel articles and guidebooks, we’re making new discoveries,” says co-founder Paris Permenter. Permenter and husband, John Bigley, operate the website from their home base in the Texas Hill Country.

TexasTripper.com offers an online look at travel throughout the state with travel guides to major cities as well as small communities with coverage of attractions, accommodations, festivals, restaurants, and more.

“Texas has such a range of travel options,” says Bigley, a native Texan. “Along with a great geographic diversity—everything from canyons to coastline—there are so many options in terms of attractions as well. Travelers can visit well-known destinations like the Alamo or Padre Island but there’s also a whole state of unusual attractions like Southfork Ranch of J.R. Ewing’s ‘Dallas’ fame, Amarillo’s Cadillac Ranch, or even the world’s largest pecan in Seguin. The state is also filled with world-class museums and many outdoor attractions that can be enjoyed year around.”

Along with Texas travel, TexasTripper.com features a growing section on Texas barbecue (http://www.texastripper.com/bbq/), a hot topic in the Lone Star State. Top barbecue joints, recipes, and cookoffs are included. Permenter and Bigley have plenty of experience on the topic; the couple authored Texas Barbecue, winner of the best guidebook award from the Mid-America Publishers Association. Other titles authored by this couple have included Day Trips from San Antonio, Day Trips from Austin, Insiders’ Guide: San Antonio, CitySmart: Austin, Texas Getaways for Two, and others.

Although TexasTripper.com is new to the internet world, Permenter and Bigley are longtime web developers; in 2000, the couple launched Lovetripper.com, one of the internet’s largest romantic travel websites.
