Moving Professional Helping Natural Disaster Victims in Indonesia

September 30, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
As a 13-year veteran of the moving industry, Greg Gatlin of Buehler Moving & Storage, a Denver-based Mayflower Transit agent, knows the importance of a place to call home, even if that place is temporary. For that reason, Gatlin has committed himself to helping provide shelter for the victims of the May 2006 Tsunami and earthquake in Indonesia.

Gatlin, director of Commercial Sales at Buehler Moving & Storage, along with seven other individuals, is departing from Denver to the Java Islands on Sept. 16 to deliver four-man tents to the people who lost their homes during the disaster.

“There are more than 100,000 people there who still don’t have any shelter,” said Gatlin. “Our goal is to deliver 100 tents to these victims, along with some medical supplies. We know it’s just a drop in the bucket, but every little bit helps when you don’t even have a roof over your head.”

Gatlin’s group is traveling with the International Board of Indonesia (IBI) and the Southern Baptist International Mission Board (SBIMB). So far, the group has raised enough money to purchase 20 tents, which the airline is allowing them to transport at no cost. Transportation fees will have to be paid for any additional tents, and Gatlin says the group is still working to raise an additional $8,000 in order to fulfill their goals for the trip.

Gatlin has been volunteering his time to relief organizations for more than 25 years; this will mark his second trip to Indonesia. Six years ago, Gatlin turned his focus to international relief efforts, a move that was readily accepted and supported by Buehler Moving & Storage.

“They’ve given me the time off I’ve needed to do this important mission work and have generously supported my financial travel needs,” said Gatlin. “It truly is a blessing to play a role in these life-changing experiences and I appreciate the opportunity to do so.”

In addition to collecting tent donations, Gatlin says the relief group will also accept cash gifts to purchase tents in Indonesia, which will help cut down on the transportation costs. Anyone interested in supporting this effort should call Gatlin at 303-994-9237 or 303-388-4000.
