Mid-Atlantic Farm Show Offers Ag Career Days to 9th-12th Grade Students in NC, VA, TN, GA & TN

Pre-registration is required for the anticipation of 300-1500 students attending the expo's first "Ag Career Days" educational programming sessions at the Cabarrus Arena & Events Center in Concord, NC. The "Agri-cational" opportunities also include agricultural-based scholarship awards. The two-hour programming consists of seminars and many roundtable topics. Two hot seminar topics include Biotechnology and Turfgrass Management. Over 10 concurring “Ag Scramble” roundtable topics will offer participating students the chance to pick four, 12-minutes career topics to explore. In addition, college recruiters will be available to discuss further details outside of the class sessions and to the general public Nov. 2-4.

Current high school seniors, who plan to puruse studies in a wide-range of agricultural fields, may apply for three scholarships presented on behalf of Mid-Atlantic Farm Show sponsors. The deadline to apply for the 4-year, 2-year and Apprenticeship/Support level scholarships is October 6, 2006. An Antique Farm Equipment Show will be hosted to raise funds for future scholarships and educational programming. People’s Choice Awards will go to the most popular Antique Tractor, Antique/Vintage Farm Truck, Antique/Vintage Farm Machine and the best Antique Gadget (including tools). The fee is $5 per item and pre-registration is encouraged, but not required.

Teachers and administration authorities should pre-register 9th-12th grade students prior to October 6th to take advantage of this free career fair to learn about many different opportunities available in agriculture today. Student FFA groups are also encouraged to host booths as fundraisers or for educational awareness including live animal exhibits. The 31st Mid-Atlantic Farm Show is the oldest farm show in North Carolina featuring all things agriculture from November 2-4, 2006 and is made possible through a grant provided by the Cabarrus County Convention and Visitor's Bureau. Attendees include 20,000 to 40,000 professional farmers, livestock and equine owners, landscapers, weekend gardeners to the agriculture enthusiast and the general public/consumers. Regular admission is $6 for adults and children under age 12 are admitted free of charge. Interested vendors may apply by October 6th for indoor or outdoor booth spaces.
