Nashville Man Hopes to Buy a Block of Ad Time During the Super Bowl to Propose to Girlfriend

Nashville, TN - A Nashville resident has an idea for what might be the most memorable Super Bowl commercial of all time: his marriage proposal.

Going by the name JP, the man started My Super Proposal (http://www.mysuperproposal.com), a website hub for his fundraising efforts. The goal is simply to solicit enough donations from visitors to the website to be able to purchase a 30-second block of ad time during the Super Bowl. “I really wanted to make my proposal to my girlfriend special. But more than that, I wanted it to show her how wild I am about her. The more I thought about it, the crazier and more grand the ideas became. Next thing you know, I’m registering the domain name and setting up the website.” The operation’s tagline is “the most public declaration of love in the history of mankind.”

But Super Bowl ads do not come cheap. In fact, they are among the most expensive advertisements around, with this year’s ads likely to run between $1.5 and $2 million.

Sounds simple enough, right? What’s a couple million between strangers? But JP remains undaunted. “I was inspired by similar websites like the Million Dollar Homepage, where a guy sold a million pixels on his website for a dollar each. If a million people can give a dollar each for that guy’s personal profit, then surely a couple million people would be willing to donate a dollar each to my cause. The problem is reaching the masses. It’s tough for a regular guy like me to get much publicity. But it will happen. The idea is good…it just needs a little word of mouth to get going.”

If the visitors start rolling in, though, JP is ready. His My Super Proposal website is a blog, full of information, and he has clearly invested a lot of time into crafting it. There are articles about football, past commercials from the Super Bowl, wedding planning, and more. Site visitors are encouraged to leave comments on any of the site’s articles.

There are currently two ways offered to help him reach his fundraising goal: secure PayPal donations or the purchase of My Super Proposal merchandise like t-shirts and mugs. JP says more methods are coming for people to support him in his cause. Give him time; the site has only been online for a little over a week. The donation tally currently stands at a whopping $748, roughly .0007% of the way toward his goal. Only 99.9993% to go, not that JP’s enthusiasm would give you any clue. He is energetic and determined to give the website the best chance to succeed. “I just can’t help but believe that the concept is ripe. I mean, how cool would it be to see some Average Joe buy his own Super Bowl commercial, huh? And use it to propose to his girlfriend? That’s just good, old-fashioned fun.”
