American Masters will open on Thursday, November 9, 2006 with a remarkable collection by two of the most celebrated American realists of all time.

The exhibit will highlight several famed artworks including Wyeth’s Wind From the Sea, and Rockwell’s Doctor and the Doll. American Fine Art is home to the largest collection of Andrew Wyeth prints in the country. Another special feature in the exhibit is Wyeth’s Drawings Portfolio published by the Metropolitan Museum of Art including the drawings for ten of Wyeth’s most famous paintings including Christina’s World, My Young Friend, and Nogeeshik. Both of these Realists developed there own unique school of realism and based on their wide acclaim were allowed over six decades to refine their chosen style and techniques while flourishing as distinguished American masters.

Rockwell: (1894-1978)
During his 60year career Norman Rockwell captivated and inspired America with his true realism and perfectionism. Rockwell attained the title of “America’s most beloved artist”. Best known for his treasured covers of Saturday Evening Post from 1916 to 1963, he was an illustrator and painter of hope. The American way of life, the way Norman Rockwell wanted life to be. His values and ideals were built upon decency, faith and trust. Rockwell captured love, hope, humanity and emotion like no one ever had. He was a painter of feelings and dreams making our lives a little fuller and richer every day because of his gift. Although Rockwell’s art is as American as apple pie he maintains a global appeal. His works have exhibited throughout the world and are a permanent piece of many private and public collections. Rockwell captures all of us through his sentimental moments like no other artist ever has or ever will.

Wyeth: (b.1917)
Wyeth was born into an artist’s family and grew up with the teachings of his father, another famous and talented American artist, N.C. Wyeth. Wyeth debuted with his first one-man show in New York City in 1937 at the age of twenty, and it was a sell-out. Andrew has been labeled “America’s painter” and is one of the most recognizable living artists because of the mythic stature he has achieved. His contribution to the world of art has been recorded in every notable art history book created in his time. Wyeth has succeeded in winning worldwide popularity, inspiring countless artists and earning some of the highest prices ever paid for the works of a living American artist. He has exhibited around the globe and been the subject for many articles throughout his long career including one in the Smithsonian Magazine earlier this year. There is a compelling retrospective of Wyeth’s paintings and drawings entitled “Memory and Magic” traveling to many prominent museums in the nation this year. Wyeth is now 89 years old and continues to combine his technical mastery and emotional power in his most recent works that reflect the timeless, classical monochromatic style he began with over six decades ago.
