October 07, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Health News
Phoenix, Arizona (PRLEAP) October 7, 2006 – NextCare (http://www.nextcare.com/), a leading urgent care provider across the nation, will offer flu shot fairs in the Phoenix metro area this fall, administered by qualified medical staff. The flu shot fairs will be held at two NextCare immediate care clinics in the Valley and will feature flu shots for only $20 in a quick, convenient and healthy environment. NextCare will also begin administering flu shots at each of their Arizona, Colorado, Georgia and North Carolina locations in October.

Influenza (the flu) is a respiratory infection caused by viruses. The most common symptoms are chills, fever, headache, dry cough and/or muscle aches. Urgent care provider NextCare will be using the Fluvirin Influenza Virus Vaccine, which is for ages 4 and up. This particular flu vaccine does not give the flu, as it is made from killed viruses, yet can prevent it. It takes about 2 weeks for protection to develop after the flu shot, and the protection can last up to a year. The flu may be especially serious for the elderly and people with diabetes or heart/lung/kidney diseases. Children younger than 9 years of age getting a flu shot for the first time are encouraged to get 2 doses – given at least one month apart.

For those who receive a flu shot at one of the fairs, NextCare immediate care clinic will provide a free gift. Additionally, educational material about the flu and other vaccines will be available. The Thomas Clinic’s Educational Center in Phoenix, Arizona (1701 E. Thomas Road, A-104 Phoenix, AZ 85016) will host NextCare’s flu shot fair Thursday, October 26th through Friday, October 27th from 10:00am – 6:00pm and Saturday, October 28th through Sunday, October 29th from 10:00am – 4:00pm. The Power Clinic’s Educational Center (1606 N. Power Road, Suite 101 Mesa, AZ 85205) will host the NextCare flu shot fair Thursday, November 2nd through Friday, November 3rd from 10:00am – 6:00pm and Saturday, November 4th through Sunday, November 5th from 10:00am – 4:00pm. Walk-ins are welcome and no appointment is needed for the NextCare flu shot fairs.

Trusted Arizona immediate care clinic NextCare provides quality medical care throughout the year. Beyond the flu shot fairs that will be held in Arizona, beginning in October NextCare will be administering the influenza vaccine at its convenient clinic locations in Arizona, Colorado, North Carolina and Georgia. Patients may want to call ahead to confirm vaccines are available as NextCare does not know the exact date the vaccines will arrive or how long supplies will last. Those not at high risk of getting the flu are advised to wait until mid-October to receive the flu shot so it will prevent sickness through the sick season and not wear off.
