txtNation empowers national music competition

London-based entertainment company, One Mic, has joined forces with txtNation to launch one of the biggest music competitions in the UK. Launched on 4 October, the One Mic web site allows budding performers, rappers and singers to record their voice to a selection of pre-recorded beats. Users can listen to these recordings and vote for their favourites using text messaging solutions from leading mobile specialists, Plymouth-based txtNation, Ltd.

txtNation were proud to supply its mPUSH and mENABLE technologies to the competition, working with One Mic to integrate and deploy these two user-friendly and robust services.

Tapping into the popularity of music contest shows on television, One Mic aim to make this one of the biggest competitions ever devised. Open to singers of all ages and backgrounds, One Mic aims to find true talent from the UK’s next big music stars. With the competition wide open, users have the final say on who makes it to the first rounds. Unlike other music competitions, it’s the public who decides where the talent lies at every stage of the contest. Move over Simon Cowell.

The attractive One Mic web site couldn’t be easier to use. Entrants can download from dozens of backing beats, record their song, and upload to the site following a quick registration. Features of the site include a rundown of the top 200 entrants by vote, search and browse tools for finding new talent, and behind the scenes video of various acts. In the pipeline is a themed profiles section, displaying the photos, video and statistics of all participating contestants.

It’s up the public to decide who takes home the £30,000 top prize as well as a cut of the revenue generated through txtNation-powered text voting. There are also prizes for the runner-up, who will receive half of the money generated through SMS voting. Uniquely, the top 1000 highest entries will also benefit with a percentage of the money earned through their votes.
