Jill Osinoff, mother of two felt these same frustrations. In a desperate attempt to address this problem for other parents going through the same thing, Osinoff was propelled to create Meet the Nanny.

Meet the Nanny is an innovative speed interviewing event where parents interview a large number of nannies to quickly find a potential fit. The concept was based on the phenomenal success of speed dating services, wherein a group of singles are paired up on a series of multiple "mini-dates" in order to increase their odds of finding the right match.

Each nanny that is selected to attend events has had their references checked in advance. Furthermore, Meet the Nanny has partnered with a private investigation firm for parents that want to do additional background checks.

Extensive research analyzing the job interview/decision process has shown that employers generally make up their minds about a job applicant within the first few minutes of an interview. Meet the Nanny leverages that understanding – it allows you to get right to the decision point. During the event, a parent has a five minute interview with a dozen or more nannies. Meet the Nanny allows you to skip the discomfited feeling of having to sit through interviews when you know in a moment that the nanny isn’t a match. “We took a complicated and time-consuming process and made it simple and convenient,” said Osinoff.

The seed for the Meet the Nanny was planted when Osinoff became perturbed with her nanny search after she moved with her family to the suburbs of New York. "My nanny of three years, who had helped care for my son while we lived in Manhattan, sadly did not want to commute to the suburbs. As a result, I started to look for someone to replace her,” said Osinoff.

After 10 weeks of advertising on the internet and local newspapers, Osinoff had received at least 75 to 100 emails and phone calls. “While I was pleased that the response was so great, I was really not sure how I was going to find the time to phone screen everyone and interview them. With a newborn and 3 year old, I didn’t have much time to do anything, let alone interview all, or even some, of the nannies that had responded to my ads,” she said.

After she had put her kids to sleep, Osinoff would spend countless hours talking on the phone to potential nannies and scheduling interviews only to find that, upon meeting them, they were not going to be a match. “I figured there has to be a better way of going about this. It’s just too stressful and time-consuming for a parent with young kids,” she said. Thus, Meet the Nanny was formed.

Due it its success in New York City, Meet the Nanny will begin holding events in Westchester, Long Island, New Jersey and Chicago this October. For more information on Meet the Nanny visit their website at: http://www.meetthenanny.com.
