The September "Hot List" of the most popular knitting and crochet patterns and yarns.

October 25, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
Lion Brand Yarn Company (http://www.LionBrand.com) the Web’s largest supplier of hand-knitting yarns in the U.S. and the largest online knit and crochet site worldwide, released their monthly "Hot List" of patterns. These top ten lists are based on hundreds of thousands of searches by people using the online search engines at the Lion Brand Web site in the month of September 2006.

Here are the top five pattern types searched for at http://www.LionBrand.com and using the search tool called the Pattern Finder. This search tool allows users to search by selecting criteria such as type of item, size, skill level and yarn. The top five pattern types are determined by the total number of downloads of all individual patterns, sorted by type.

1. Afghans and Throws 2. Purses and Bags 3. Ponchos 4. Baby Blankets 5. Baby Clothing

The top 10 patterns and the yarns they were made with were as follows. This is determined by the number of pattern downloads for individual patterns.

1. Plush Throw (Chenille Thick & Quick) 2. Easy Purse (Wool-Ease Thick & Quick) 3. “Coming Home” Poncho (Homespun) 4. Bauhaus Washcloth (Lion Cotton) 5. Prayer Shawl (Homespun) 6. Hooded Baby Poncho (Babysoft) 7. Two Needle Booties (Watercolors) 8. Aran Cardigan (Fishermen’s Wool) 9. Groovy Granny Poncho (Homespun) 10. Easy Does It Baby Blanket (Jiffy)

Note: The “Coming Home” poncho, the design of the famous poncho that Martha Stewart wore when she was released from prison, was first introduced on the Lion Brand Web site in March 2005, is still the number 3 pattern.
