In an effort to give parents peace of mind during this trick-or-treating season, the National Alert Registry (NAR) today announced it will distribute free copies of the Emmy award-winning “Safe from Harm” child safety DVD along with child identification kits.

“Before our little princesses, super heroes and ghostly ghouls run out to collect their goodies, we want to be sure they are prepared to keep themselves out of harm’s way,” said Scott Adams, director of the National Alert Registry. “In addition to practicing safety techniques with our children, completing child identification kits can save investigators precious time if they should ever need to find our missing child.”

The “Safe from Harm” DVD walks parents and children through numerous safety elements, such as how to avoid unsafe areas, what to do when approached by a stranger, how to create a family safety sign or key word and also provides specific dialogue to help children quickly get out of an uncomfortable situation.

The NAR child identification kit includes forms and instructions on how to create a police-ready description of a child, a complete finger printing record and a prioritized list of a child’s medical needs.

“As parents across the country help their children put the finishing touches on the perfect costume for Halloween night, we hope the ‘Safe from Harm’ DVD and the child identification kits will also help parents and children protect themselves from child predators,” Adams said. “ We realize that this video is a valuable tool and anticipate that making it available for less than cost will help hundreds of parents this Halloween season.”

The 23-minute “Safe from Harm” video typically retails for $19.95, but NAR is only requesting $3.98 to cover shipping and handling costs. To view a two-minute clip of the “Safe from Harm” DVD or to request a free copy of the DVD and child identification kit, please visit the NAR sponsored web site www.safefromharmvideo.com.
