20-20 Optical Store Continues to Lead the Way in Revolutionising Eye Exams

Optomap retinal imaging is a revolutionary advance in eye examinations. It enables optometrists to view a much more comprehensive picture of the patient’s retina than conventional methods allow. This is because the Optomap gives a 200 degree view of the back of the patient’s eye. Traditional methods cover around 40 degrees only.

One of 20-20’s practitioners explains that limited conventional methods are a bit like “examining the patient’s eye by looking through a keyhole.”

As such it is proving invaluable in detecting eye disease and problems early. In some cases this can mean the difference between being able to see and having no vision at all.

20-20 Optical Store, London’s award winning optician, was the first optometry store in the world to use Optomap retinal imaging as part of its standard private eye examinations.
Now many other optometrists have seen the value of Optomap retinal imaging and are also offering it to their patients.

However, 20-20 Optical Store at 216 Tottenham Court Road London is the only UK optician where this comes as standard rather than incurring a surcharge.

Most other opticians in the UK who offer Optomap retinal imaging charge about £25 for it. But at the 20-20 Optical Store it is included free of charge as part of their standard eye exam.

Director Vanessa Ho-Yan says “ We didn’t wish for clients who cannot afford an Optomap surcharge to feel they had no choice but to opt out of this fantastic health check. By making it part of the standard private eye exam, we’re able to subsidise our low income NHS Clients who can now afford the Optomap which is only £8.50 compared with £25 elsewhere!”

As a result, everyone who gets their eyes examined at 20-20 has access to the most advanced eye examination possible.
