JESSUP, MD – When a well-regarded employee recently approached senior management at Dormia Inc.’s headquarters recently looking for more “support,” she wasn’t seeking anything for herself, but rather for the 85 volunteer firefights in Odenton, MD.

Stacia Kerns, whose husband was a lieutenant with the department before his death in a tragic motorcycle accident a year ago, approached President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Zippelli looking for some new mattresses to replace the exhausted bedding that had been in the fire house for many years. Zippelli and his management team took to the assignment with gusto, opting to replace all 19 sets of bedding for the firefighters.
Kerns husband, Greg, was a Bronze star recipient and petty officer first class serving in the first Persian Gulf War and in Afghanistan in 2002. He was killed in a motorcycle accident while going to the supermarket, leaving behind his wife and two small children.

The mattresses are not only used by firefighters for relaxation, but would also be used for broader community needs to shelter families or those displaced during natural disasters.

“Dormia has been so kind to donate a new mattress for each of our bunks and we thank them for their generosity,” said Odenton Volunteer Fire Company President Bob Rose. “As a volunteer operation, we rely on giving individuals and local businesses such as Dormia to help keep the fire company running in order to better service the community.”

“Stacia’s husband was a great American who served our country with pride and dignity. We are grateful to him for everything he did for us, as a nation and in his local community in Odenton. When we were made aware of the needs of the firefighters, it was something that we needed to do in Greg’s memory,” said Zippelli. “Making a contribution in the communities where we do business is a very important part of the Dormia culture. Odenton is a neighboring community to our headquarters facility and we were glad to be of assistance.”
