Grand Canyon Lodging Discounts Take Effect This Month

Page, Arizona, November 6th, 2006 – Discounts at Grand Canyon National Park hotels are few and far between during the peak travel months of spring, summer and fall. This month, however, many Grand Canyon hotels will begin offering reduced rates to entice wintertime travelers to the popular Southwest attraction.

Typically the quietest time of year at the Northern Arizona park, winter can be a particularly enchanting time to take a Grand Canyon vacation according to the locals. “Grand Canyon in winter is a truly different world,” says Karlyn Bunting of GrandCanyon.com. “The South Rim isn’t nearly as congested as it is during summertime, so you can usually find a place to park, and you won’t have to weave through quite as many people to get to the viewpoints.”

Another plus to visiting during the park’s “off-season” is that the majority of popular Grand Canyon tours are still operating. “Grand Canyon rafting trips will wrap up in mid-November with the exception of the Grand Canyon West tours,” says Karlyn. “Grand Canyon jeep tours run through the end of December. Otherwise, everything else runs year-round – the Grand Canyon Railway, airplane tours, helicopter tours, bus tours, even the mule rides.”

At 6,500 feet above sea level, it does get cold at the Grand Canyon, and it occasionally snows. GrandCanyon.com advises Grand Canyon visitors to keep close tabs on the weather, pack clothing that can be layered, and to keep their schedules flexible in the event of road closures or other winter driving factors.

Grand Canyon hotels discount periods will vary from place to place. Specials may not be offered during major holidays such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s. Otherwise, potential savings run anywhere from $10 to $50 per night. GrandCanyon.com, for example, now offers rooms at its preferred hotel at $40 a night below peak season rates. Seasonal specials are also available at Sedona and Flagstaff hotels.
