Oxclove Workshop Develops Multi-Faceted Website For SUNY Ulster

Kingston, New York – November 17, 2006 Oxclove Workshop, a Hudson-Valley based Internet production and software company specializing in the creative integration of business strategies and web-based technologies, has completed a total revision of the website for SUNY Ulster in Stone Ridge, New York—www.sunyulster.edu.

The challenge for the Kingston-based company was to create a variety of ways to navigate the site for the large number of end-users who are frequent visitors—students, faculty, alumni, foundation developers, prospective students, parents and more. “It was one of the toughest assignments we’ve tackled to date,” says Ric Dragon about the year-long process that involved extensive research of the college’s marketing, admissions, course offerings, operations, personnel, and more. “We needed to determine what the site was used for now, how it would need to function in the future, who the end-users are, and how we could help them find information quickly and easily.” In addition to proper functioning, the site also had to be an inviting site to visit. Once completed, it needed to be registered with numerous search engines and available to other sources through carefully orchestrated links.

Jack Murphy, SUNY Ulster Web Coordinator, was part of a committee that selected Oxclove after an exhaustive competitive search. “They had the expertise and drive we were looking for. They were also a local firm that would prove convenient as well as cost efficient over the period of the contract,” he says. “But what really sold us on Oxclove was their understanding of our goals and their intelligent suggestions early on about how we could achieve those goals.”

According to Murphy, the College’s existing site had been added to throughout the years and eventually had grown unwieldy. “It was no longer functioning optimally. We needed to rebuild it from the ground up. That was far too big a job for us to tackle internally,” he adds.

SUNY Ulster is a two-year college located in Stone Ridge, New York, serving a diverse population of students from around the region and increasingly attracting students from across the country as well.
