CommTank of Wakefield, MA teams up with Citizens Energy to recycle and redistribute heating oil.

DATELINE: WAKEFIELD, MA…
One good turn deserves another at CommTank, a family owned business based in Wakefield, MA that has removed and installed thousands of oil and fuel storage tanks throughout the Boston metro area.

Citizens Energy, known for providing discount heating oil to the poor and elderly, had a problem. They would often receive calls from residents switching from oil to gas heat who wanted to donate the remainder of their unused oil to Citizens Energy. Easier said than done until CommTank came to the rescue about six years and 20,000 gallons of oil ago.

Kevin Hoag, President of CommTank, notes, “Few companies have the proper licensing and the facilities necessary to carry out the multi-step operation of recycling fuel oil. We do have that capability and are pleased to aid Citizens Energy in their mission.”

Citizens Energy contacts CommTank when they receive a call from a resident wishing to donate their unused heating oil from a tank that they are going to remove. CommTank then removes the unwanted oil tank (at a reduced rate for the home or business owner) and the donated unused oil. The collection, clean-up and filtering of the oil is then done at cost by CommTank, which also stores the oil and redistributes it by delivering the recycled oil directly to non-profit organizations in need.

Non-profit organizations that have benefited from this effort include the Pine Street Inn, the YMCA in Malden, MA, the Chelsea YMCA and Somerville High School to name a few.

For more information about donating the oil from an unused oil tank, please contact CommTank or Citizens Energy.
