LOS ANGELES–Sounds Are Active Films and director Sean Carnage proudly announce the debut of critically-praised music documentary, 40 BANDS/80 MINUTES! on DVD this week.

The 40 BANDS/80 MINUTES! DVD—containing the movie and loaded with almost three hours of extras—was chosen TOP POP MUSIC DVD by the L.A. Times’ editorial staff for their annual Holiday DVD Gift Guide this past Sunday.

Now, the DVD is available coast-to-coast for all music and film fans to enjoy!

“The response to the movie has been incredible—overwhelming, even,” reports Sounds Are Active Films boss Chris Schlarb. “More than 250 local musicians, celebrities and fans crammed into two advance screenings in Venice, California just a week ago. This is a grass-roots endeavor that has everyone excited.”

Presented by Long Beach, California’s Sounds Are Active (a home to young, avant-garde bands since 1999) and distributed by Portland, Oregon-based Nail Distribution (a top indie distributor), the 40 BANDS/80 MINUTES! DVD captures over fifty of Los Angeles’ most amazing, experimental and eccentric bands on one night in Hollywood as they joined together with a daring goal: to present their uncompromising music to the world… in two minute blasts! Using shared equipment, each band had only one chance to get it right. No second takes allowed.

“40 BANDS/80 MINUTES! is in the same tradition as THE DECLINE OF WESTERN CIVILIZATION and URGH! A MUSIC WAR,” says director Sean Carnage.

“The difference is, this is not a retro project! This is the sound of underground music, circa NOW,” Carnage explains. “By limiting each band segment to two minutes, we’ve kept pace with modern attention spans. This movie is NOT boring.”

The 40 BANDS/80 MINUTES! movie and DVD feature performances from ABE VIGODA, ANAVAN, BIZZART, CAPTAIN AHAB, FIREWORKS, HARASSOR, HEALTH, I HEART LUNG, TOXIC LOINCLOTH, as well as solo and duo performances by members of acclaimed bands MIKA MIKO, FRIENDS FOREVER and CHILD PORNOGRAPHY, plus the legendary WIVES in their LAST SHOW EVER—all captured live with multiple cameras and audiophile-quality sound!

These bands fuse electronic, rock, dance, metal, jazz, noise and punk within one amazing community.

“Sounds Are Active intends to promote this film for the next nine months,” says Sounds Are Active’s Schlarb. “We are entered in a number of film festivals, and we are organizing a tour of the film—along with many of the bands—to music venues across the country this spring.

“We hope that music and film publications will review the movie, because this is the present—and future—of popular music. Anyone who misses this important new development in the history of music does so at their own aesthetic risk.”
