Newton based Rodman & Rodman, P.C. weighs in on Quickbooks 2007 -
Small business would be wise to invest in the new edition.

Many small businesses are still unsure whether the new version is really worth it and have delayed making the purchase. The accounting and business development team at Rodman & Rodman, P.C. of Newton, Mass., are advising small business owners that it’s definitely worth the investment. Besides, maintaining current software and technology is just another part of doing business.

The cost to upgrade for a single user can range from $199.95 - $399.95 and for Multi user $499.95 - $1,499.95, not taking into account QuickBooks Enterprise, which is best used by mid-size companies. The new program is not an expensive investment and the additional features and benefits (seen on and off screen) are worth it.

Small business owners can probably get by with current QuickBooks software (provided it’s not more than one year old), but the 2007 version will definitely help improve business performance. Product installation has been simplified and it’s very user-friendly. Learning the program should be a snap, so there won’t be that additional expense of professional training.

New Google Marketing Tool provides Small Biz with Competitive Edge
Intuit is always improving their programs, and many of QuickBooks’ new features are "bells and whistles" which operate behind the scenes. The most exciting change is that QuickBooks has partnered with Google, which will help give small business owners a competitive edge.

QuickBooks Pro special new features include a Google Marketing Tool to help small business advertise and grow. Now a small business can be added to Google Map for free. Not only does this provide an air of sophistication, it is a feature that even small businesses without a website can use. Two other available options include advertising on Google AdWords (fees apply) and the installation of Google Desktop search. Additional features that make tasks easier include a new Online Time Sheet from Time Tracker and the automatic classification of business expenses. Plus, the Shipping Manager now has multi-parcel shipping and thermal printer supply.

In the Premier Accountant's edition of QuickBooks, the Accountant's Copy has improved. An accountant can make adjustments to prior period transactions such as Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, bank and journal entries. In the previous version, an accountant would have to spend more time on-site or via remote access to manually make changes to a live file. With the upgraded flexibility of the Accountant's Copy, an accountant can now make all changes in the Accountant's Copy without having to redo work in the live file.

Ultimately, it saves a small business owner both time and money.

According to Kathy Parker, CPA, and a Senior Accountant at Rodman & Rodman, P.C., “The question is not whether to invest in the 2007 edition, but WHEN to make the purchase. Although QuickBooks 2007 editions are tested extensively before being released, Intuit cannot possibly anticipate every use, or for that matter misuse, of the product. Like any software, the first version is typically "buggy" and patches will have to be downloaded. By the time the store receives the second round of shipment, any problems with the software will have been eliminated. This would mean waiting until the end of December or until January 2007. It’s worth it.”
