The Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce recently formed a regional infrastructure task force, made up of Indianapolis Chamber representatives, public works officials, town managers, mayors, county commissioners and area business owners, with the goal of developing a regional dialogue around the condition and quality of central Indiana’s infrastructure.

In addition, the group will develop a methodology to identify the key infrastructure investments that are necessary to ensure that the region remains an economically competitive and desirable place to live. In an effort to do this, the group will gather information on the current conditions of regional infrastructure projects, determine the impact of future growth and development and identify needed expansion and costs associated with these upgrades.

“To expand the economic prosperity our region has experienced, we need to critically examine our asset base and determine where our capital project budget priorities should be,” said Roland M. Dorson, President of the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce. “By advocating for a better infrastructure system, the Indianapolis Chamber is ensuring that our region stays competitive nationally, even internationally.”

The task force will produce a final document that prioritizes key infrastructure projects and identifies funding sources in order to improve Indiana’s American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) rating and improve the quality of life and economic vitality in central Indiana.

Recommendations will be presented to regional legislators and policy makers in state government.

The areas to be studied will include air quality; aviation; bridges and roads; brownfields, redevelopment and farm preservation; trails; drinking water; rail and transit; solid waste; wastewater and storm water.
