Online Auction Sellers Saving Money Using Free Auction Sites

With Christmas past, many are using eBay to sell their unwanted gifts. However, increasingly-savvy sellers are turning to alternative sites and saving money on auction fees. The savings can be substantial.

When using eBay, a seller must pay a listing fee to get an item posted. A final value fee of up to 5.25% is also charged if an item sells. EBay listing fees depend upon the starting price of the item being sold. For example, the listing fee for an item with a starting bid of $25.00 will incur a $1.20 listing fee plus any optional listing enhancement fees. These fees can add up quickly when a seller has many items to list.

Many have discovered auction sites that function in a similar fashion to eBay, but charge no listing fees and a nominal fee only if their item sells. Some popular alternative destinations are Tazbar.com, Bid-Alot.com and Satisfaction.com. Satisfaction.com was created by a Silicon Valley engineer and entrepreneur, Robert Mingione in 2005. Inspired at the time by eBay fee increases, Mingione decided to create a secure auction site where sellers could list their items for free and pay a small fee only if their items sold.

"When I started Satisfaction.com, my goal was to help sellers by providing a viable alternative to paying seemingly ever-increasing auction fees. Our members enjoy the benefit of auctioning as many items as they want and not paying any listing fees. If an item successfully sells, we charge only 2% of the final selling price. This represents a big savings over using eBay," said Mingione.

Since opening the site, Satisfaction.com has quickly become one of the premiere stops for online auctions. Thousands of visitors come to browse, buy and sell each day. “Our members are thrilled with all of the money they have saved in fees,” said Mingione.
