Johnson Realty of St. Louis Lists 100th Home

Nontraditional agency saves sellers about $7,000 on average

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — In a little more than a year in business, Johnson Realty of St. Louis already has listed its 100th home, a pace that puts the agency ahead of the pace of a full commission realty firm. The company was founded in October 2005 as an alternative to full commission real estate companies, flat fee brokers and FSBO.

Recognizing how the power of the Internet is shaping rapid changes in the real estate market, Mike and Cheryl Johnson launched Johnson Realty in 2005. “The real estate world is changing, and the status quo is no longer cutting it,” Mike Johnson, founder and co-owner, says. “Consumers are looking for alternatives to full commission real estate agents in order to help market their homes more effectively and save money at the same time. We want to provide our customers with ‘reality checks’ in real estate and help them cut through the myths of selling a home that they’re used to hearing.”

Within a little more than a year, Johnson Realty has sold residential homes in the St. Louis area with average days on market of 54 days, shorter than the St. Louis area average by more than two months. The company has also acted as a buyer’s agent on eight homes and has sold four commercial properties.

The Johnsons consider Johnson Realty a hybrid real estate company, offering full-service representation and aggressive marketing without the high commissions. For example, Johnson Realty offers a $500 MLS listing plus 1/3% commission at closing. Traditional agents often charge 6% although, by law, this is negotiable.

“We save sellers nearly $7,000 on average,” says Johnson. “We tell our clients that their equity is real money—and they should keep it to save or put toward their new home, pay off credit card debt or generally improve their lives.”

Plus, Johnson says the agency works with buyers to provide the same insight and full-service representation the company offers sellers. Finally, Johnson Realty provides expert negotiation and representation, which Cheryl Johnson says are missing from many flat fee companies.

Johnson Realty of St. Louis was founded in 2005 to bring St. Louis an alternative to traditional and discount real estate companies. Johnson Realty is owned by Cheryl and Mike Johnson. Johnson Realty combines aggressive marketing, full-service expert representation and real financial savings to bring “A Better Way” to St. Louis sellers and buyers.
