Marriage Resource Center Awarded Healthy Marriage Grant and Celebrate Grand Opening

Southfield, MI – January 10, 2007 announces the awarding of the Federal Healthy Marriage Demonstration Grant and the celebration of the grand opening of The Marriage Resource Center of Wayne County.

On January 26, 2007 from 11:00a.m - 2:00p.m, Wayne County executive representative and the county clerk will be among the many that come to support the opening of the center that will help to offers to the people of Wayne County how to have satisfying marriages which will result in healthy marriages, happier families and stronger communities.

The mission of the Marriage Resource Center is to improve marriage relationships for adults and children. The vision is to provide tools and resources that will help to “strengthen marriages and families” in the greater Wayne County area which includes the city of Detroit.

With over 87% divorce rate recorded in 2004 and fewer fathers in the home, the Center will illustrate the benefits of marriage through workshops and training.
Their research has shown that: marriage increases the likelihood that fathers will have good relationships with their children, husbands benefit from the emotional support they receive from their wives, children who live with their married parents are healthier physically and emotionally, and married men and women have lower rates of alcohol and drug abuse.

The grand opening will be held in Dearborn, Michigan, located at 23400 Michigan Ave., P-18. Ribbon cutting at 11:30a.m. Refreshments will be served.
