WILSONVILLE, ORE. – Once Upon a Horse (www.onceuponahorse.com), introducing children to horses and horseback riding since 1995, has relocated to a new and larger facility at 4500 S.W. Advance Road, Wilsonville Oregon, and will begin offering new programs. To showcase the various riding and education programs to be offered at the new facility, the staff at Once Upon a Horse will be greeting old friends and new customers at an open house Sunday, January 21 from noon to 4:00 pm.

Since 1995, Susie Shramm, known to her riders as “Miss Susie,” and her horses have provided a safe and exciting experience for children of all ages with parties, pony rides, Western and English riding lessons, and basic horse care, stable management and safety. Once Upon a Horse now features four friendly horses that work with Miss Susie to introduce children to the equestrian world.

During the open house, Once Upon a Horse will formally introduce a new program, “Pony Planet.” Pony Planet is a full-day program with activities designed to be a comprehensive introduction for young children to the care of horses. Children will learn about tack cleaning, braiding, bathing, saddling and bridling, leading and longeing horses.

“For the last three years I’ve given my granddaughters horseback riding lessons as a Christmas present,” said Susanne Penkin of Portland. “The oldest can now ride bareback and the youngest began riding with Miss Susie at age four. Learning how to care for and manage these very large and beautiful animals is empowering for young girls, and Miss Susie’s program emphasizes building the child’s confidence as much as it teaches riding skills.”

Guests at the open house can meet the staff and the horses, and learn about all the different riding, care and birthday party programs. Additionally, riders may pre-register for Spring and Summer Camps. Attendees should call the barn at 503-682-6903 to RSVP. Directions to the barn are available at http://homepage.mac.com/balladboy/PonyPlanet/PhotoAlbum46.html.
