HOUSTON, Texas — The independent film “I Flunked Sunday School” has won the hearts of its audiences all over the country and now it hopes to do so overseas at the Berlinale Film Market at the 2007 Berlin International Film Festival in Germany.

A creation of filmmakers Steve McCurdy and Ken Bailey, “I Flunked Sunday School” is based on Bailey’s novel of the same name. The film will participate in the Berlinale Film Market . No stranger to the world of film festivals, “I Flunked Sunday School” is the Best Feature Film winner of the 2006 Secret City Film Festival.

This year, more than 19,000 film professionals from 120 countries will come to participate in the 2007 Berlin International Film Festival. Approximately 350 films from all over the world will be show-cased in this prestigious event. “I Flunked Sunday School” will be featured in the Berlinale Film Market where over 600 film buyers from all over the world, including many from the United States, will have a chance to purchase films for distribution. “We are very excited to be marketing the film at one of the most renowned film markets in the world. We eagerly anticipate visiting with the buyers from literally hundreds of companies from countries all over the globe including the US,” says Steve McCurdy.

“I Flunked Sunday School” is both a hilarious and touching film that looks at faith, forgiveness and love. “We wanted to use the gifts God gave us to tell a funny, whimsical, entertaining story of the way in which faith struggles in our contemporary world,” says McCurdy. “And yet like Lloyd Boyd [lead character], in spite of our track records, we will not only be forgiven for our unending list of failings… God uses them to build His successes. God actually CAN make silk purses from sow’s ears!! ” The film already has a nationwide following, so it is the hopes of the producers that the opportunity to participate in the Berlinale Film Market will help “I Flunked Sunday School” reach more hearts in the US and all over the world.

There’s nothing heavy or preachy about this stumblingly reverent little audience pleaser. While “I Flunked Sunday School” focuses on faith, it’s a film for anyone who has ever felt as though they’ve somehow failed God…and, ultimately, themselves.
