Perception Adds Design Talent; Re-Design Corporate Website and Identity

February 02, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
NEW YORK - Reflecting both corporate and creative growth, Perception, the award-winning creative design/post boutique founded by Jeremy Lasky (Design Director), Daniel Gonzalez (Effects Director), and Brendan Werner (Editorial Director), has added two new full-time designers to its roster, and is set to unveil their newly redesigned corporate website and identity. "Looking back, 2006 was a good year for Perception," says Werner. "We're excited about the variety of creative assignments that are coming our way. We decided it was good time to add some key talent to our staff, and revitalize our own brand."

To that end Perception has added designers Mara Smalley and George Sepulveda to its full-time staff.

A graduate in Fine Arts in Visual Communications from the University of Delaware, Newark, DE, Mara Smalley is a designer and illustrator with extensive experience in broadcast, web, print, and T-shirt design. Mara's first project since joining Perception was to lead the design of the company's new website and marketing collateral material. Prior to joining Perception, Smalley was with the post-production house Suspect, New York. In addition, she's also worked at such companies as Calvin Klein, Heavy, Mutant Media, and Freeze Apparel.

Originally from Florida, George Sepulveda joins Perception with several years of design and art direction experience in both traditional and digital art. A 2001 graduate in Digital Media from Full Sail, Orlando, FL, Sepulveda's full-time and freelance design and animation career has seen him work with companies ranging from television and entertainment to architecture. His reel includes work for Univision, Spine3D, Florida International University, TGT Sports and Marketing and Starline Communications, among others.

"For us, it's all about building the core, and the core of Perception is about great design," said Lasky. "After seeing Mara's design work I knew she'd be a great fit for us. She shows great attention to detail, an expert eye for typography and the rare ability to adapt her design solutions to a whole spectrum of projects, rather then one specific style."

He added, "When we first watched George's spectacular fly through simulations of luxury condominium developments in Miami Beach we knew he possessed a great feel for the camera and a keen eye for motion. In the three months that he worked with us as a freelancer he demonstrated his incredible skills on huge projects for HBO, ESPN and Showtime. We expect great things from him."

Perception Launches New Website
In addition to its new staffers, Perception also unveiled a new corporate website and identity. Playing off the idea of the five-senses, the new Perception website features lush colors, subtle illustration and slightly retro-60s typography that evoke a smart, laidback environment in which to browse. Worth noting is the Art section of the site, which is reserved for the staff's personal flights of creative fancy; an active news section for current info about the company and its work; and the ability to view their work in the traditional Quicktime format and the iPod friendly MP4.

"Our new website has been adapted to meet the changing needs of the industry by providing visitors with a clean, simple smartly designed site that reflects our creative sensibility," said Gonzalez.

Although Perception has enjoyed steady growth since opening its doors in 2002, the company's work came to wider industry attention this year thanks to a successful awards season. Among their triumphs were seven BDA awards, including a World Gold; and a Telly for their show open/packaging for ESPN Classic's Ringside programming block. They were also nominated for their first Emmy for the :90 show open for ABC Sports' Battle at the Bridges.

"Our first five years in business has taught us a lot and validated our vision and approach," said Gonzalez. "We look forward to putting those lessons to good use and meeting new challenges from our clients."
