Anglo Jewry Show Support to Israel and IDF

Last year over 3,000 gift baskets were sent to Israelis soldiers from Jews abroad in an unprecedented display of support and solidarity. The gift baskets were part of a world-wide project, “A-Kosher-Basket.com,” which enables individuals and communities to show their support for the Israeli economy and their appreciation to Israeli soldiers.

A-Kosher-Basket.com is the brain child of 'Connections Israel' which is a nonprofit organization that's goal is to connect schools and communities outside of Israel with Israeli soldiers and their units. The project is designed to offer a medium to enhance the ties between Anglo Jewry around the world and the soldiers who protect the State of Israel and its inhabitants.

“After the war this summer we saw that there was an unprecedented amount of people wanting to show their love to their friends and families in Israel as well as showing a steadfast commitment to supporting Israel and lifting the morale of soldiers. We took both the primary idea of a kosher gift basket, which traditionally people send to family and friends at times of celebration and Jewish festivals, and combined it with an initiative to a fund-raising vehicle that can be used by organizations and communities,” stated Adi Friedman, Co-Director of A-Kosher-Basket.com.

A-Kosher-Basket.com is unique in that it also offers entire communities the opportunity to take part in the project. Communities can participate in two different ways. The first option is that with every basket purchased by a member of a synagogue or organization, A-Kosher-Basket.com will send an additional basket to a soldier or unit under the auspices of that community. The alternative option offered is that with every basket purchased, 20% of that basket's final price is sent back to that community’s own fund-raising efforts. “A-Kosher-Basket.com gives communities around the world a chance to actively and yet effortlessly show their support of the Israeli economy and its soldiers while at the same time benefiting their own communities,” said Adi Friedman.

Soldiers, far away from family and home, are touched by the giving act of strangers. “It's great to feel appreciated for all the hard work we do, especially from Jews abroad,” remarked solider David Marks upon receiving a basket.
