Family Planning Workshop for Same-Sex Couples Presented by MEGA Family Project at Same Love, Same Rights™ Wedding and Family Expo

Atlanta, Georgia—Rainbow Wedding Network (RWN), the country’s oldest online GLBT wedding registry, visits the Atlanta area each year in February to produce the Same Love, Same Rights™ GLBT Wedding and Family Expo. Hosted by the Holiday Inn Decatur, Sunday February 25, 2007 marks Rainbow Wedding Network’s third year in the Atlanta region. Community sponsor MEGA Family Project joins RWN to present a two-hour workshop entitled Creating a Family: Choices for Prospective LGBT Parents.

The expo is open from 12 pm until 5 pm on Sunday February 25th. The workshop takes place between 1 pm and 3 pm in a private conference room. MEGA has developed the workshop to be one of the most comprehensive resources for prospective parents to explore the options available to LGBT people in Georgia. The panel of experts will include Michelle Black of the Independent Adoption Center, Danielle Funk of Options 4 Adoption, Shandron Forte of The Giving Tree, Lori Surmay of Caliborne, Outman, and Surmay, and Gail Panacci, from the Feminist Women's Health Center. In addition, Barbara Katz, Esquire will discuss legal issues regarding parenting in Georgia and Susan Barrett, PhD, will talk about psychological issues to consider when becoming a new parent. Workshop topics will address open adoption, International adoption, Foster Care, surrogacy and artificial insemination. Participants will have the opportunity to speak with professionals in detail about specific situations and questions.

In addition to the workshop, attendees will have the chance to visit the Third Annual Same Love, Same Rights™ GLBT Wedding and Family Expo. The event is free to the public and features over 50 wedding, travel and life planning vendors. Visitors to the expo will enjoy food, DJ’s, giveaways, live music and a sexy Valentine’s fashion show sponsored by Aphrodite’s Toy Box. Children and visiting parents will also have free access to the Kid’s Room to watch movies and use art supplies.
