Foreign Actors find new opportunities in Hollywood

Madhav has appeared on General Hospital throughout last year, and now he’s developing quite a following of soap fans, all of whom are supportive of the Indian actor who is rapidly becoming a sex symbol in South Asian community.

It is rumored that actor Michael Douglas will be producing a movie that will be filmed in India and the US that will star Indian actress Aishywarya rai and will feature Sanjay Madhav in his break-out film role this year.

Madhav’s career began in Vancouver where he appeared in numerous Canadian and American TV shows including the long-running hit series Degrassi High, 21 Jump Street, MacGyver, and Star Gate.

Madhav hopes his success will provide more opportunities for other minority actors. “Times have changed,” says Madhav, “What we see on the screen is finally starting to catch up with society”. He added, “Today, I feel that anything is possible, and it’s such a departure from what I experienced when I started acting in Vancouver 15 years ago”.

The doctor he has portrayed on General Hospital is one of ambiguous ethnicity, not an obviously Indian character. Madhav has a multi-ethnic look that lends itself well to this kind of approach, and also makes him appealing to fans from many different ethnic backgrounds. “My fans are comprised of so many diverse groups including Latino, Middle-Eastern, and Asian communities. They’ve told me time and time again that they don’t see people like them or me on TV, and so I feel, in many ways, as though I represent them all”.
Madhav has his sights set on furthering his presence in Hollywood, and expects 2005 to become a big break-out year for him. He is also working towards producing a feature film under his production company Prologic Entertainment, and he is currently writing a book on marketing for actors which will be published later this year.
