In Burton's novel "Come Die With Me" the main character, a vindictive woman, uses AIDS as her personal weapon of mass destruction. A well-educated young woman of mixed racial blood, she has tired of being an exotic club dancer and has begun a new career as a chiropractor and licensed masseuse. Having been infected with the AIDS virus by her boyfriend, who has since succumbed to the disease, she overcomes her trepidation to embark on a vengeful mission to "get even with men" for their lustful pursuits. Believing she will soon die, she is driven to take with her as many as come willingly, despite strong protests from her good friend and business partner, Deleesa.

Burton notes, "AIDS continues to be a deadly serious epidemic in our
society and throughout the world. Unfortunately, some have become too
complacent and consequently less circumspect about the dangers posed to
those who treat indiscriminate sex as a recreational pastime."
